IMG Junior Golf Tour tees off in the Northeast at Berkshire Valley Golf Club
Andrew Bowyer captures title in Boys 15-18 division; Anina Ku takes second-straight win in Girls division; Alex Chin wins Boys 11-14 division
BRADENTON, Fla. (October 9, 2013) - The IMG Junior Golf Tour teed off at Berkshire Valley Golf Club in Jefferson Township, N.J., Oct. 5-6, for the second of back-to-back events in the Northeast. The event attracted a full field of 72 players from six states, Thailand and Mexico. On Sunday, persistent heavy fog created challenging conditions and caused play to be shortened. The Boys 15-18 division was shortened to 18-holes, but Andrew Bowyer of Summit N.J. and John Felitto of Mountainside, N.J. found themselves tied at 68 (-3) apiece after the first round. For Bowyer, it was a chance at redemption after coming up short in a three-hole playoff the week prior at the Northeast Kickoff, but this time, Bowyer emerged victorious after a five hole playoff against Fellitto on Sunday. Not far behind were Ethan Ng of New York, N.Y. and Justin Lane of Woodstock, N.Y., who finished tied for third with even-par 71s.
“[John Felitto and I] are good friends and he is the best ball striker I know, so I knew it would be tough going head to head with him,” remarked Bowyer on his playoff win. “John just a bad break for him on the final playoff hole – let one swing get away from him, but I just wanted to play well this weekend and have fun.”
In the Girls division, 13-year old Anina Ku of Basking Ridge, N.J. turned in a solid 27-hole one-over 107 to take her second consecutive Tour victory. Ku bested runner-up Christina Parsells of Bernardsville, N.J. by five-strokes.
“It feels great to get two wins in a row, and this has been great preparation for the AJGA event in Georgia next weekend,” Ku said of the win. “I just tried to focus on one shot at a time and break down a difficult course into individual strokes.”
The Boys 11-14 division went to Alex Chin of Chatham, N.J., whose scores of 78-34 over 27-holes allowed him to cruise to a six-stroke victory.
The event was hosted by Berkshire Valley Golf Club, a Billy Casper-managed facility, and was the second of five events to be held in the Northeast region this season, and third overall event on the Tour calendar. AJGA Performance Based Entry was awarded to the top-five boys in the 15-18 division, and the Girls champion. The IMG Junior Golf Tour will get back underway this weekend at Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota, Fla., Oct. 12-13.
