Today the IMG Junior Golf Tour announced the winners of its season-opening event at the Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida. The course, which also hosted last year’s season-ending Power Balance Tour Championship, provided the perfect challenge amidst a rainy backdrop for its 84 competitors.
Malaysia’s top amateur, Kelly Tan, took home the Girls 15-18 title, posting a 70-69=139 (-5). She also won the Tour Championship at this same course last May, proving the Tom Fazio-designed course is amenable to her style of play. Runner-up Hadas Libman shot a 74-72=146 (+2).
Argentina’s BJ Chung (-5) took the Boys 15-18 title, though the event was shortened to 18 holes following an initial suspension of play that lasted more than an hour, and a second attempt to complete play as thunderstorms rolled into the area. Chung managed to post the second lowest round in the Tour’s history (67). Runner-up Mario Beltran of Spain shot a 70 (-2).
Both Tan and Chung earned Performance Based Entry exemptions from the AJGA for their wins. The top five finishers in the Boys 15-18 each also earned a Performance Based Entry star.
Terrence Zhang of Orlando won the Boys 11-14, posting a 73-69 (-2) and winning by seven strokes.
