IMG Junior Golf Tour adds Junior Honda Classic to 2014-15 schedule
Premier junior event to be held at PGA National Resort & Spa January 3-4, 2015
Bradenton, Fla. (October 9, 2014) – The Junior Honda Classic, a premier competitive and developmental event celebrating junior golf as an extension of the annual PGA TOUR Honda Classic, has been added to the IMG Junior Golf Tour schedule for the 2014-15 season. The Honda Classic dates back 43 years, and its storied history includes past champions such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Rory McIlroy and Fred Couples. The Junior Honda Classic began in 2007 and has grown significantly over the past several years, and most recently attracted more than 200 players form 20 states and 16 countries. The event will take place at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the home of the Honda Classic, Jan. 3-4, 2015.
The Junior Honda Classic will be the first event on the IMG Junior Golf Tour calendar in 2015, following the IMG Academy Junior World Match Play Championships, Dec. 11-16, 2014. The Junior Honda Classic is open to both members and non-members of the IMG Junior Golf Tour. Players aged 14-18 will compete in Boys and Girls 14-15 and 16-18 divisions. Players will play for AJGA Performance Based Entry, as well as exemption opportunities for the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, Calif. in July, and Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. in July. The event will also be recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings.
The addition of the Junior Honda Classic is the latest premier event to be added to the ever-expanding IMG Junior Golf Tour schedule. Earlier this year, the IMG Academy Junior World Match Play Championships, to be held in Bradenton and Longboat Key, Fla, Dec. 11-16, was added to the lineup of events. The inaugural 36-hole Match Play event, in conjunction with the Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, Calif. next summer, are expected to attract hundreds of top players from around the world to the Bradenton/Sarasota area.
