Columbian players rule the field at IMG Junior Golf Tour event in Naples
The IMG Junior Golf Tour stopped in Naples over the weekend at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club
Despite the rainy conditions, the IMG Junior Golf Tour played on during its second event of the season at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Fla. Play was suspended on day one due to heavy rains and lightning. Sunday provided overcast skies, but players were able to complete rounds one and two on the Jack Nicklaus-designed championship course.
All three division winners this week hail from Columbia. Esteban Castro, a 17-year-old from Bogotá, took home the Boys 15-18 title, posting a 78-76=154 (+10), while fellow Columbian Silvia Garces took home the Girls 15-18 title with a 75-76=151 (+7).
Each earned Performance Based Entry exemptions from the AJGA for their wins. The top five finishers in the Boys 15-18 division each also earned a Performance Based Entry star.
Martín Jamarillo, also from Columbia, emerged at the top of the pack in the Boys 11-14 division. For complete results, visit: www.imgjuniorgolftour.com.
The Tour will resume in two weeks at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., October 22-23, for the ArmourBite Open. Each week, ArmourBite awards the two players (boy and girl) who improve the most between rounds one and two with an ArmourBite performance mouthpiece. This week’s winners are Kenny Sujieanto (-18 strokes) and Sara Simons (-11 strokes).
Registration remains open for both Tour membership and individual events. Tournaments are open to boys and girls ages 11-18 (11-14 & 15-18 age divisions for both boys and girls). A new lower pricing option ($184, excluding meals, practice round) is now available for members.
